Suspended BJP MLA refuses to apologise, AAP supporters slam ‘#AntiWomenBJP’ on twitter

There has been a social media outcry on the alleged behaviour of the BJP MLA OP Sharma inside Delhi assembly on Tuesday, when he was suspended for using objectionable reamrks against AAP MLA, Alka Lamba.

Lamba, the AAP MLA from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk, took to twitter to announce that she regretted not slapping the BJP MLA, who had called her ‘raat bhar ghoomne waali (one who roams around all through the night).

Many felt that Sharma’s comments may not have sounded as objectionable in English as they did in Hindi. When said in Hindi, it usually implies a person with loose character.

AAP’s Delhi convener, Dilip Pandey, said that ‘women, those who can’t respect you and your rights for equal freedom, don’t deserve to be your representatives either!’

Supporters of Lamba have been incensed over Sharma’s refusal to apologise for his offensive words, which prompted the Speaker of the assembly to suspend him for the rest of the session.

As expected, the incident has dominated the conversation on social media with an overwhelming number of twitter users expressing their outrage against Sharma for what they said ‘attacking the modesty of a lady MLA.’

The supporters of Lamba and Aam Aadmy Party also launched a hashtag #AntiWomenBJP to embarrass the party. The hashtag #AntiWomenBJP was a top twitter trend at the time writing this report.
