Police in Kerala have arrested five people in connection with a gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl in Kannur district. The cops are also questioning the victim’s father, who is also accused of raping his daughter for two years. The arrested individuals are identified as KV Sandeep, CP Shamsudheen, VC Shabeer, KV Ayyoob, and K Pavithran.
Pavithran, according to Times of India, is the manager of a lodge, where the girl was first gang-raped in November this year. According to Kannur DSP, KV Venugopal, the girl had met the gang at the guest house after she came in contact with a woman, Anjana, on Facebook.
Anjana had invited her to the lodge, where the five accused raped her and took photos and made videos of her in objectionable position. The gang then allegedly started blackmailing the victim.
According to cops, there were 20 people involved in the gruesome crime, committed both in Kannur and outside the district over several weeks. The matter came to light after the girl’s brother came to know about the crime. The gang had demanded money from the victim’s brother by showing him the objectionable photos and videos of his sister.
She also confided in her mother about the crime. Three of the five accused arrested are believed to be the girl’s friends. “The matter first came to the notice of the girl’s brother. He spoke to his sister. And that’s when the mother also got to know about this. The brother also alleged that he was blackmailed with videos involving his sister,” Kannur district police chief G Siva Vikram was quoted by NDTV.
The victim, a class 10 student, has also alleged that her father raped her on several occasions over the last two years.
