16 labourers buried alive after truck carrying fly ash falls in ditch


16 construcrion labourers have died and 17 injured after the truck carrying fly ash they were travelling in fell into a ditch near Gondapalli in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday morning.

Police say that all those killed were buried alive under the fly ash.

According to the district magistrate of East Godavari, H Arun Kumar, the driver lost control due to ‘sleepiness’ adding that the victims had boarded the truck in West Godavari district.

However, police says that it may have been a case of overspeeding whereby the driver may have lost the control. The truck driver is on the run and police has begun the hunt to arrest him.
