Alka Lamba, the MLA from the Chandni Chowk constituency called me last evening, when I was about to go for a meeting of Indian Street Performers Association Trust (ISPAT).

She informed me of her campaign to rid her constituency (a major hub of homeless people) of homelessness and drug addiction by starting 9 August, QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT DAY. This was to start by 5:30 am and go on until 7:30 am everyday till 15th August.

So we (myself and Bipin Rai) were there this morning. As the people assembled in front of the Prachin Hanuman Mandir in Yamuna Bazaar, Alka started talking about her drive. She was requesting everyone to sleep in shelters and go for de-addiction. She also asked me to talk. Among other things, I said that shelters were meant for them and no ID proof was required for them to stay there.

We had informed Alka about the drug mafia operating in the area with the police protection.

Alka was talking about her determination to stop all the drug trade in the area and the violence against women when a stone came and hit her on the left side of her head. I was standing to her left and Bipin Rai to her right.

This attack of her was in full presence of few Delhi Police officials. And the shop from where the stone was thrown at Alka Lamba, Shiv Sweets (since 1933, the picture says so) belongs to the BJP MLA, Mr. O P Sharma.

There was no heckling. MLA Alka Lamba, put a good fight. She was bleeding and refused to move, for any first aid, until the SHO came.

When an MLA, like Alka is not safe, what to talk of other women in Delhi. Mr. “I’m Government” the LG of Delhi needs to answer.  WE condemn this attack.
