Remember Priya Prakash Varrier, who became an internet sensation last year with her winking scene in her debut film Oru Adaar Love! While young Priya became a star overnight as she amassed millions of fans on Instagram, she was also slapped with a series of legal cases for hurting religious sentiments.
A year later, the star is back in the news as she prepares for the release of her film this Valentine’s Day. The film’s teaser video, released recently, has set the internet on fire, but has also evoked angry reactions from movie fans.
In the video, Priya is seen kissing her costar in the film, Roshan Abdul, on his lips. Taking objection to the scene of sexual nature inside a school campus, many demanded the video be removed from YouTube. One fan wrote, “What the hell? Is this romance or cheap hot explicit clip for promoting the movie. Watch 96 for a natural love experience.”
Another comment read, “How many people will accept if their children or their brother and sister will do these type of things in school ???? Is school made for these purposes??? It has great impact on the youth? That’s y students are engaged in relationships from the class 8 and 9?”
Another commented, “96 is the one of the best film in school love story. This is not worth in school story.” “The biggest flopbuster of the year…. Those who think so….. Destroy the like button,” read another comment.
Such has been the anger against Priya and her costar for the intimate kissing scene in the film that the number of ‘dislikes’ on YouTube has far outweighed the number of likes. At the time of writing this report, the number of dislikes stood at 51,000 in comparison to around 25,000 likes to the video.
Oru Adaar Love, directed by Omar Lulu, is based on a love story between two classmates during the final days of school.
