Katrina Kaif has finally opened up on replacing Priyanka Chopra in Bharat starring Salman Khan. This was days after Priyanka stunned everyone by quitting Salman next Eid’s big release.
Speaking on the sidelines of an award function, Katrina said that she was very pleased to have joined the Bharat team and was looking forward to shooting with the rest of the cast. She, however, successfully avoided making any direct or indirect references to Priyanka even when asked to comment on her decision to replace the Quantico star.
“This is not like that. I don’t see it that way. Ali Abbas Zafar is a very very dear friend of mine. We’ve worked in films such as Mere Brother ki Dulhan and then Tiger Zinda Hai. And both of the films were extremely successful. And more importantly, there were experiences, which were really wonderful for me. And I really enjoyed working with him in both the films.”
Katrina revealed that when Bharat director Ali Abbas called her, he addressed her as ‘gold fish’ and said that he was going to send me a script. “When he contacted me, he said, ‘I’m going send you a script and just react and tell me what you think’. I read the script and thought it was absolutely wonderful and I was extremely excited about the character and very happy to be part of the film.”
Another reporter once again asked her to comment how it was to joining the team after someone’s ‘exit’ in a veiled reference to Priyanka. Katrina, once again, successfully avoided getting drawn into a controversy and replied, “Obviously, I’ve always chosen my films based on the script and what the character is. For me it’s extremely exciting to be working with the team again. It’s a wonderful script and I completely love the character I am going to play. So very excited.”
Before journalists could ask her any more questions, Katrina politely excused her and walked away.
After Priyanka quit Bharat, Salman had proudly announced Katrina’s name as her replacement with a very flattering caption, “Ek sundar aur shusheel ladki jiska Naam hai @katrinakaif …. swagat hai aapka #Bharat ki zindagi mein ….”
This was in marked contrast to how he had announced Priyanka joining the team with a taunt at her English.
