Renowned film-maker Shyam Benegal too has thrown his weight behind Udta Punjab calling it a very well made and important film.
Benegal’s observation assume significance in light of he being entrusted with the responsibility to head the revamp committee to recommend changes on the way the Central Board of Film Certification functions.
Benegal, who watched the film on Wednesday, said, “It’s a very well-made film.”
Later, he told ANI, Its an important film, it brings to the fore a very big problem. You cannot think that everything will fit in the same set of rules, films are not made in a factory.”
His comments come a day after several high profile Bollywood actors came out in open to slam the Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani even demanding his resignation.
The most notable among them was Aamir Khan, who said he was pained at the treatment being meted out to Anurag Kashyap.
He had said, “It’s very unfortunate. I’m pained that the film is going through this. As per my knowledge, it is based on drug addiction and delivers a social message. I don’t think there is anything that should be cut or audience should be kept away…”
