A Christian body filed a criminal case against Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan on Wednesday for his old tweet making a reference to Pope.

Former Vice-Chairman of Maharashtra Minority Commission Abraham Mathai accused him of “hurting sentiments” of Christian community by dragging Pope while taking a dig at actress Kangana Ranaut through his twitter post.

While responding to Kangana’s comments in the media referring him as her former boyfriend, Hrithik had tweeted, “There r more chances of me having had an affair with d Pope dan any of d (I m sure wonderful) women d media hs ben naming. Thanks but no thanks (sic).”

Mathai’s lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee, according to PTI, said the notice had been sent to the 42-year-old actor under the provision of Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code asking the actor to apologise in seven days failing which a criminal complaint will be filed.

He said, “Hrithik Roshan has hurt the religious sentiments, feelings and beliefs of Christians (Roman Catholics) all over the world which includes my client as well. My client wants a written public apology from Hrithik Roshan within 7 days,” Siddiquee said.

Hrithik’s fans took to twitter to express their support for the 42-year-old actor. While he remained a topic of an intense conversation on Wednesday, by Thursday, his fans had launched a new hashtag describing the complainants as ‘Church Mafia.’

Hashtag #ChurchMafiaAttacksHritik was the top most national trend on twitter all throughout Thursday morning.
