Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha on Sunday apologised to members of the Valmiki Samaj for Bhangi comments made during an interview. Faced with protests from Valmiki Samaj, Sonakshi took to social media to issue a statement apologising for her comments.
Her statement read, “With reference to an interview I did with Siddharth Kanan on July 23, 2019, I place on record that I have tremendous regard and respect for the Valmiki Samaj and all their valuable contributions to our society and country. If any person or community has been hurt by the usage of any word by me, despite it being unintentional and un-derogatory to anyone, I humbly apologise for the same.”
She repeated her statement in Hindi too.

No sooner did she share her post, Sonakshi began to face incessant trolling with many users asking her to apologise for making a ‘disastrous’ film such as Khandaani Shafakhana. One user wrote, “Ma’am no interested in you & what’s happening in your life .. so just go and sleep. Also don’t forget to enjoy the disaster failure of #KhandaaniShafakhana. (sic)” Anotehr wrote, “Plz apologize for those who went and spent money and saw ur flim.” “Please apologise for the movie as well. I have never seen more disaster than this,” commented another user.
During an interview with a Radio Jockey, Sonakshi had said that she was a fan of casual airport style adding that she couldn’t spend adequate time on improving her airport looks because of her busy schedule at times. She had added in Hindi, “Yeh thodi hai ki purposely ghar jaake, ‘bhangi’ banke chali jayungi (It’s not like I return home to purposely look like a bhangi and go to the airport.).”
She had even taken to Instagram to write, “How i feel about #AirportLooks – “I legit do not care”.”
Her latest film Khandaani Shafakhana has failed to create a magic at the box office.
