Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh praises sound of Azaan, hailed as man with clean heart

Remember the mindless controversy over Azaan last year, kicked up by singer Sonu Nigam, who was widely accused of showing his bigotry towards Islam?

Sonu Nigam

This was after the singer, in  a series of tweets, had raised questions on the Azaan call in the morning and said it was “forced religiousness”.  Launching his tirade against Muslims, Nigam had written, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India.” His subsequent tweet had called the Muslim call for prayers as gundagardi (hooliganism).

“I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion. Why then..? Honest? True?  Gundagardi hai bus…,” he had tweeted.

Many users were quick to condemn him for his bigotry. Just when the debate was raging, an old video of Priyanka Chopra praising Azaan had gone viral. In the video, Priyanka, who’s arguably the most successful female Bollywood actor, was seen describing Azaan time as her ‘favourite time.’

Now another successful Bollywood actor-singer, Diljit Dosanjh, has earned plaudits from fans for his viral tweet praising the sound of Azaan. Diljith wrote, “Am in Dubai .. Jo Best Hai Woh Hai “AZAAN” Although Mujhey Kuch Samjh Nahi aata.. Kion ke Itna Samjhdaar Nahi Hu .. But Jo Sound hai….Baut Sakoon Milta Hai Sunn Ke?? Kisi bhi Dharm Mai.. Bhagwan ki.. Nature Ki.. Uski Sifat Mai..Uske SHUKAR Mai Jo Sakoon Hai.. WAH WAH ”

Diljit, who has acted films like Soorma, Udta PunjabJab Harry Met Sejal and Raabta among others, instantly earned plaudits his gesture towards other faith while displaying an incredible example of religious harmony. One fan wrote, “Really you won my hearts.” Another comment read, “These lines by you indicates you have crystal clear heart..diljeet ji..And that quality of yours makes you so humble and nice person…we love you so much. (sic)”  Another fan wrote, “Diljit brother, my respect for you has gone up further. Thank you so much.”

Earlier this year, Diljit Dosanjh had become emotional during a reality show on Colors TV while recalling the atrocities being committed against children and women in Syria by the country’s brutal dictator, Bashar al-Assad.
