In 1999, when Taal was released, everyone wanted to just see India’s new beauty sensation Aishwarya Rai, who had won the Miss World title only a few years ago. The film’s plot had revolved around her and Anil Kapoor.
Nobody in their wildest dream had noticed a boy in the crowd, who would soon be a star and whose stardom will eclipse even the main protagonist of Taal i.e. Aishwarya. 19 years later, that boy Shahid Kapoor is now one of the most sought after stars of Bollywood. He’s now all set to have his wax statue installed at Madame Tussauds, hopefully alongside Aishwarya Rai, in whose film he had worked as a background dancer in 1999.
Shahid trended on Twitter for many hours earlier this week and the increased attention to the Padmaavat star had nothing to do with his upcoming films and wife Mira Rajput’s second pregnancy.
The star was a topic of considerable social media conversations because the actor announced to his fans that he will soon be waxed at Madame Tussauds. Shahid posted a photo of him while holding an artificial eye and captioned it, “Keep an eye out. Coming soon.”
It’s not clear whether his statue will be displayed at Madam Tussauds Delhi or London or both. Shahid’s announcement came just moments after his Padmaavat co-star Deepika Padukone too told her fans that she will soon have her wax statue displayed in London as well as Delhi.
Shahid’s fans took to Twitter to launch a trend #ShahidAtMadameTussauds and began to share their own anecdotes about their favourite actor. Some fans sought to remind that Shahid’s ascendancy to stardom in Bollywood had happened without any ‘godfather.’ Others were quick to point out the extraordinary transformation of Shahid from being a junior dancer in Aishwarya Rai’s film Taal to being waxed at Madam Tussauds alongside her statue.
One fan wrote, “The very well deserved in fact the most deserving in today’s youth talent Someone who is god of acting and someone who never stops trying himself being the most versatile.” Another commented, “My heart stopped for a sec when i saw this story @shahidkapoor ???? you deserved to be there way before ? happpy happy because it is happening.” Here are some other notable tweets. Another fan pointed out how this had been a rocking year for Shahid on professional front. He wrote, “3 Film deal with Zee Studios, 56 crore flat, Statue in Madame Tussauds, Strong lineup of films… Shahid is on a roll. And he’s doing it all on his own, unlike others.”

Shahid bought an expensive duplex in Worli for a whopping Rs 56 crore as he also paid close to Rs 3 crore in stamp duty to the government for registration of his flat, spanning over 8,000 sq ft. Among his neighbours in the new tower will be Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan. Shahid and Mira had been on the lookout for new flat since Fberuary, when it was reported that they were fed up with the growing menace of prostitution in their neighbourhood.
Shahid’s wife Mira Rajput is currently expecting the couple’s second child. The couple’s first child, Misha Kapoor, will turn two next month.
On professional front, Shahid has been busy with the dubbing of his film, Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, the film deals with the issue of power theft while bringing an Ambani-like industrialist into the dock. The film also stars Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam and will release on 21 September, 2018.
