The Congress has filed a formal complaint against the makers of Saumya Tandon-starrer Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain, Tujhe Se Hai Rabta and Kundali Bhagya for poll code violation after these programmes were seen to be promoting the BJP during their shows.
While Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain is broadcast on &TV, Tujhe Se Hai Rabta and Kundali Bhagya are two popular programmes on Zee TV. Both channels are owned by BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra.
As reported by Janta Ka Reporter, two of these programmes had hailed key government schemes of the Narendra Modi government such as Ujjwala Gas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Mudra Yojana.
Maharashtra Congress leader Sachin Sawant told news agency PTI that he had ‘approached the Election Commission seeking a ban on the two channels for airing content that exalts the schemes and ruling party leaders. It violates the model code of conduct and betrays viewers.’
Sawant alleged that the two channels had received crores of rupees in exchange of praising the Modi government’s schemes. Urging the Election Commission to register it as a case of ‘corruption,’ Sawant said, “a case should be filed against makers and actors of the two serials and the BJP for violating the code of conduct.”
Earlier, Sawant had tweeted accusing the BJP of stooping to a new low.
pic.twitter.com/mpCu4dU7x2

It’s not clear what action the EC will take. The Election Commission has often faced flak for its brazen biases for the BJP. It’s highly unlikely that the national poll body will muster the courage to take punitive action against the channels owned by pro-BJP media baron for this gross violation of India’s election code.
