BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra and Union Minister Smriti Irani bumped into each other on Friday as they both boarded the Lucknow-bound flight. While Irani was on her way to inaugurate a ‘CT scan machine’ in Amethi, Patra was scheduled to speak at a BJP workshop in Lucknow.
Irani took to Twitter to post a photo of herself with Patra with both sitting in the plane. She wrote, “Bumped into @sambitswaraj both headed in same direction #ModiOnceMore @BJP4UP.”

No sooner had she posted the photo, both began to face trolling on social media with many targeting the both for ‘theatrics.’ One user wrote, “I don’t know why but this pic reminds me of Snakes on a plane movie.” Another commented, “This flight will have a lot of turbulence.” “Do nautanki ek sath,” reacted one user. Another tweeted, “Accidental Minister (After loosing Amethi) Bumped into Accidental & Mental (Director of ONGC) on the way to meet Accidental Chief Minister of UP.” Another user targeted both with ‘Bunty and Bubly’ reference.
Irani had lost her last Lok Sabha polls from Amethi to Congress President Rahul Gandhi in 2014. She is hoping to contest from here once again during this year’s parliamentary elections.
Patra, for his part, later tweeted photos of his speech, delivered at the BJP event, held in Lucknow.

Patra, who courted several controversies with his loose talks during the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, has mellowed down after his party’s defeats in all three states. Analysts say that this is because the BJP leadership has reportedly directed him to stay away from making controversial statements in the election year, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking his second term in office.
Both Patra and Irani have been two of the most controversial faces of the BJP. While Patra has courted controversies with his loose and communally charged statements, Irani has been in news because of questionable educational qualifications.
