India’s own MeToo movement has been gaining incredible momentum ever since actor Tanushree Dutta first opened the can of worms by accusing Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her 10 years ago.
Tanushree’s story gave strength to many other women, both in Bollywood and outside, kick-starting India’s own MeToo movement. Other artists, who have since then been called out are actor Alok Nath, filmmakers Sajid Khan, Vikas Bahl and Subhash Ghai, singer Kailash Kher and several high-profile names in the world of comedy and media.
Now Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has revealed that he too had his own MeToo story adding that he was harassed 25 years ago. A report by PTI quoted him as saying that he had been harassed in his career ’25 years ago’ adding that he still fell ‘angry about it.’ He, however, made it clear that his harassment wasn’t sexually and he will reveal that at some point in future since the world needed to pay attention to the women’s stories at the moment.
“Most people don’t understand other people. It is very difficult to understand other people’s pain. I don’t want to talk about it because I am not important today. Even when I think about what happened with me I still get angry. Today, we have to look after women,” Saif Ali Khan was quoted as saying.
Giving his approval to the ongoing MeToo movement, Saif said that people were ‘offended and they want justice.’ He added, “What it is happening is good and it gives you a sense that something is happening.”
His comments came on the day, MJ Akbar, India’s junior foreign minister, refused to resign and instead threatened to file defamation cases against those women, who had alleged sexual violence against him.
Meanwhile, Nana Patekar on Sunday announced that he was stepping away from Housefull 4 amidst reports of Mumbai Police taking cognisance of Tanushree’s allegations. The cops in Mumbai have booked Patekar and three others.
“Nana saheb thought of the convenience of everybody as he wishes the best for the producer [and] the crew [and] hence felt that stepping out of the project would be an appropriate thing to do at this point of time,”Patekar’s son son Malhar Nana Patekar, was quoted by news agency ANI. He, however, did not explain as to why his father had suddenly decided to quit the film.
