Treat women with respect and not as baby vending machines: Masaan actor Richa Chadha

Richa Chadha, famous for playing the role of a strong woman character in Fukrey, Gangs of Wasseypur and Masaan, comes out to explain as to what ‘freedom’ means for women in India.

The actress said that the girl should first be allowed to take birth and then, let her exercise other liberal rights.

She added, “Freedom for every Indian girl first and foremost is to take birth. She should then take up education, choose the career of her choice and marry the person she wishes to. As of now, if something of this magnitude happens, it will still be a significant development.”

Giving the example of Razia Sultan as a strong woman leader, Chadha expressed her desire to play her biopic.

She said, “She was the first strong female leader of our country. There is a need to throw further light on her life. A biopic has been done before, but a more beautiful one can definitely be done.”

Chadha has spoken on women’s rights on several occasions before also.

On Women’s Day (March 8), she had said, “I wish that people in this country, men and women, would start treating women as human beings, at par with men, and not just as baby-vending machines, unpaid household workers, dowry bringers and objects for sexual gratification.”

Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Selfie with daughter’ initiative, she had said, “The problems of the female – dowry, sexual harassment, eve-teasing and others – cannot be solved by selfie or anything like that.”

Presently, Richa Chadha is working on Prawaal Raman’s thriller film, Main aur Charles, which also stars Randeep Hooda and Tisca Chopra and is due to release on August 26.
