Release of Udta Punjab stopped by censor board for excessive swearing


The Censor Borad has reportedly stopped the release of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Udta Punjab, because of excessive swearing.

The film by Anurag Kashyap, is based on the subject of drug abuse.

A report by NDTV said that the film was not granted an all-clear because of “excessive swearing.”

Kashyap has decided to appeal against the decision. However, there are reports that the reason behind not clearing the movie was political as the state was scheduled to go for elections next year.

The film, which also feature Shahid Kapoor’s former girlfriend, Kareena Kapoor, is scheduled to release on 17 June.

Shahid’s character in the film is a foul-mouthed rock star who is an addict.

The censor board had cleared the release of its trailer for release in April this year.
