Divya Spandana, who is also known as Ramya, has rubbished media reports claiming that she had quit as the social media chief of the Congress party. Terming the reports as mere ‘gossip,’ Ramya said that she will continue to function in her role till her ‘commitments are fulfilled.’
The actress-turned-politician was quoted by India Today as saying, “The stories you mention [about my resignation from the Congress], they make for good gossip and it shows what people are truly interested in writing and reading. To me it’s not worth my time or attention. I will continue to work till my commitments are fulfilled.”
Speculations on her resignation as the social media head had gained momentum after she removed her designation from her Twitter bio. But the former MP from Karnataka said that she was ‘much more than Twitter bios.’
She said, “I really don’t know how to elaborate on this one. I find it amusing. Surely, we are much more than our Twitter bios? It speaks volumes about journalism today.”
Some media reports had said that Ramya was unhappy over much of the social media responsibility being given to Nikhil Alva, who is a son of veteran Congress politician Margret Alva.
But Nikhil had told NDTV channel, “I can’t comment on rumours, I am abroad.”
It was also claimed that one of the reasons for her ‘strained’ relationship with the party leadership is her recently tweets targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She was slapped with a sedition case after she posted a photo of Modi with chor (thief) written on his forehead. She had also made a Thugs of Hindostan jibe against Modi in one of her tweets.
Meanwhile, Times Now has quoted her as saying that she was on leave and will rejoin office on Thursday. The Congress party has so far not commented on the issue. Spandana was appointed as the social media head of the Congress in May last year.
