Rakesh Roshan has expressed his anger over Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming thriller, Raees, whose release will coincide with that of Kaabil, which has Hrithik Roshan in lead role.
An angry Roshan told DNA, “Whatever dates we are taking, they are following us. I would have never done the same. I belong to an old school of filmmaking and I have given 50 years of my life to the industry. I would never release my film on a day when another filmmaker has already announced their film. I decided to remove Krrish 4 also from Christmas 2018 because I saw SRK’s film is coming that day. I could have easily released my film with Befikre or even with Dangal if I had to clash. But when I announced the film in February, I saw a clean window in January and hence I picked the date.”
Hrithik’s last film, Mohenjo Daro, was released on same day as Akshay Kumar’s Rustom in August. On Raees potentially releasing the same day as Kaabil, the actor had told NDTV earlier this year, “It’s not the ideal situation but it’s happening now and all we can do is communicate with each other and do the best we can.” He also said that SRK and he “understand each other.”
Roshan told Bollywood Hungama website, “Both are jumping into fire, not in water. In water, you can survive, in fire nobody will survive. It just remains to be seen who will get burnt more,” Mr Roshan said. So, you are saying that both Raees and Kaabil will get hurt because of releasing on the same date? “Yes, because both are good films, both are looking good. I know about myself but I heard even Raees is a very well made film. Coming together is jumping into a well of fire.”
Raees trailer was launched on Wednesday with much fanfare. It was during the release of the trailer, when it was officially announced that the movie will hit theatres the same day as Kaabil’s release.
SRK-starrer Raees was originally scheduled to release on 6 July but was postponed to avoid the box office clash with Salman KKhan’s Sultan.
In Kaabil, Hrithik and Yami Gautam will be seen as a visually-impaired couple. While Raees will have SRK as a liquor baron Raees Alam. Pakistan actor, Mahira Khan, plays as SRK’s love interest Mohsina, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the cop, who’s determined to bring him to task.
