Sanoj Raj from Bihar has become the first contestant of this season’s Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan to win Rs 1 crore. Raj, a resident of Bihar’s Jahanabad district, was asked about the father of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi for his Rs 1 crore question. Even though he knew the correct answer, Raj decided to use his lifeline since a contestant is not allowed to use a lifeline to answer the Rs 7 crore question.
The question for Rs 1 crore read, “The father of which Chief Justice Of India was one of the first Chief Minister of an Indian state?” The options were Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Misra, Justice TS Thakur and Justice Ranganath Misra.
Raj, who’s preparing for the IAS exams, did not have to struggle to win Rs 50 lakh. The question was, “Who translated Satyendra Nath Bose’s article on quantum physics into German in 1924?” His options were Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie and Karl Benz. To the astonishment of both the audience and Bachchan, he did not use a lifeline to answer this question. Bachchan was incredibly impressed with his reasoning to arrive at the correct answer.
The question that earned him Rs 25 lakh was, “Who’s credited with the drafting of Article 370, which granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir?” His options were VK Menon, Hari Singh, BR Ambedkar and N Gopalaswami Ayyangar. Even though he appeared to know the correct answer, he decided to use the 50:50 lifeline before asking Bachchan to lock Ayyangar’s name.
Raj said that he would give the money won from the KBC to his father so that he could use it for his business. His father revealed that he had started several businesses but all had failed to take off.
Raj’s father told Bachchan, “I had to keep doing something or the other due to financial difficulties.” Bachchan told his emotional father that his difficult time was about to come to an end.
Earlier in the week, another contestant from Uttar Pradesh had reached the Rs 1 crore question but decided to quit the show.
