PM Modi’s special message to Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV and anchors from Aaj Tak, ABP News, India Today and Zee News for Lok Sabha polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle was incredibly busy on Wednesday after it went on a tagging spree by requesting selected individuals from different backgrounds to help raise awareness on why people should vote. Notable among them in the Indian media were Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV and its team, Rahul Kanwal of India Today, Anjana Om Kashyap of Aaj Tak, Sudhir Chaudhary of Zee News and Rubika Liyaquat of ABP News.

Modi wrote, “I appeal to @RubikaLiyaquat, @anjanaomkashyap, @sudhirchaudhary, @rahulkanwal and the team of @republic to spread awareness on voter registration, and why every Indian, particularly the youth should vote. Your support can ensure more people exercise their franchise.”

Among other media personalities, Modi alsi tagged Aroon Purie of India Today, Rahul Joshi of News18 Group and Sanjay Gupta, Editor-in-Chief of Dainik Jagran newspaper. Tagging them, he wrote, “The media plays a vital role in a democracy. It is also a strong influence on people’s minds. I request @Sanjaygupta0702, @aroonpurie and @18RahulJoshi to work towards greater voter awareness and registration that ensures an impressive turnout at the hustings.”

He posted similar appeal to Vineet Jain of Times Group, Subhash Chandra of Zee Media and Rajat Sharma of India TV as he wrote, “I call upon veterans of the media world, @RajatSharmaLive, @subhashchandra and @vineetjaintimes to take the lead in highlighting the need to vote in large numbers. Doing so would ensure greater participation in democratic processes and strengthen our nation’s development.”

His last set of appeal targeting individuals or entities from media were Smita Prakash from ANI, PTI news agency and Navika Kumar. He wrote, “Requesting @smitaprakash, @PTI_News, @navikakumar and @prasannavishy to embolden the cause of high voter turnout in the 2019 polls. As leading public voices associated with important platforms, your support on voter awareness will be valuable and beneficial for 130 crore Indians.”

Modi also tagged Congress President Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik among other politicians. Among Bollywood personalities, Modi tagged Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, AR Rahman with a similar appeal.
