The producer of the film Narendra Modi has issued a desperate clarification after noted lyricist Javed Akhtar made a stunning revelation that his name was being fraudulently used as one of the lyricists of the film on the Indian prime minister.

Faced with considerable embarrassment, Sandip Ssingh wrote on Twitter, “We have taken the songs ‘Ishwar Allah’ from the film ‘1947:Earth’ and the song ‘Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walon’ from the film ‘Dus’ in our film, thus we have given the due credits to respective lyricists Javed Sahab and Sameer Ji. @TSeries is our Music partner.”

Ssingh appeared to blame Akhtar for not contacting him and choosing to shame him on Twitter. Ssingh was quoted by news agency PTI, “I did not get any call from him and so I also did not call him. He spoke about it on Twitter, so even I replied there. But he could have called us.”

Meanwhile, another lyricist Sameer has accused the filmmakers of using his name falsely since he had not written any songs for the film. In a tweet posted in Hindi, Sameer wrote, “Mujhe hairat hai apana naam pm narendra Modi film me dekh karr , Maine aisi kisi film me koi gaana nahi likha hai ..(I am surprised to see my name in the film Narendra Modi. I have not written lyrics for in any such films.”

His tweet followed the social media post by Akhtar last week with both tweets being shared thousands of times on the microblogging site. The biopic on Narendra Modi has become controversial after many alleged that its release date on 5 April was decided to help the BJP in this year’s Lok Sabha polls.

Directed by Omung Kumar, the film is set to release on 5 April. The film has Vivek Oberoi in the lead role. Among the film’s producers are Vivek’s father Suresh Oberoi, Anand Pandit and Acharya Manish. Many have already raised suspicion on the timing of the film’s release since the first phase of the Lok Sabh polls is scheduled to take place on 12 April.
