‘Modi fan’ Pahlaj Nihalani plans to make a film on ‘anti-national’ FTII students

He has been a called a ‘sycophant’ and a hardcore ‘Modi bhakt,’ who got the opportunity to head India’s censor board less because of his talent and more because of his endless adulation for prime minister.

Pahlaj Nihalani’s latest video, ‘Har Har Modi’ was mocked, criticised and ripped apart by social media users as accused him of attributing success to Modi that had nothing to with India.

Undeterred by constant bad press, the censor board chief has now announced his plan to ‘expose’ FTII students to establish that they are essentially anti-nationals.

Speaking to Economic Times on Monday, Nihalani said that he planned to bring out documentary evidence of how FTII students were ‘anti nationals’ and were being supported by “bhoole bichde geet” producers who “have never made any commercially viable movie in life.”

He said, “These are film-makers who have been long forgotten and are now cashing in on the FTII students to revive their careers. Their only aim is to bring down the Modi government.”

FTII students have been protesting the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the institute’s chairman. Frustrated by the government’s refusal to pay heed to their demands, the students even launched a hunger strike.

Their agitation had received support from prominent Bollywood personalities including BJP sympathiser Anupam Kher, Rishi Kapoor and Shabana Azmi among others.

But, Nihalani says he knows the reality of these students that no one else is aware of.

He said, “I know these students and their alumni for many years. I know their worth. They may think they are geniuses because they managed to get attention but the industry is very patriotic and peaceful. With this kind of attitude the students will never be able to adjust here.”
