In a temporary relief to actor Mithun Charaborty, a court in New Delhi on Saturday granted anticipatory bail to his wife Yogita Bali and son Mahaakshay after both were booked for rape and cheating.
Special Judge Ashutosh Kumar asked both of them to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties of the like amount, reported IANS. The court also directed them not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses and to join the probe whenever required and co-operate with the ongoing investigation.
But despite getting a reprieve from the court, the family has had to postpone Mahaakshay’s wedding, scheduled for Saturday in Tamil Nadu’s Ooty, where Mithun has had a hotel business for many years. The Monarch hotel, where Mahaakshay’s wedding was planned, is part of the Mithun Group of Hotels.
A woman had moved the court alleging that Mahaakshay had cheated and raped her on the pretext of marriage. The woman also alleged that she was tricked into taking a medicine, which led to her miscarriage when she became pregnant with Mahaakshay’s child. The woman had also accused Yogita Bali of issuing her threats if she continued to remain in a relationship with her son.
Mithun and his family are believed to be in Mumbai as they did not proceed for Ooty because the court hearing. People close to the actor said that Mahaakshay’s wedding had only been postponed and cancelled.
Taking note of the accusations made by the woman, the court had said that an investigation by the police was necessary “keeping in view the high and influential status of respondents 1 and 2 being the son and the wife of renowned and veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty.”
