Kerala, described as the God’s own country, has been witness to the worst floods for over hundred years. Close to 200 people have lost their lives to the raging floods, while the nature’s fury adversely affected millions in some way or the other.

The lack of coverage by Delhi-based media left many Keralites angry as was evident from the tweet of Oscar-winning artist Resul Pookutty. A visibly hurt Pookutty took to the micro-blogging site on Thursday to shame the ‘national media’ for ignoring the plight of the Keralites and ask the local population to fend for themselves.

Pookutty wrote, ““My dear #NationalMedia this is #KochiAirport as of now! Do you all have any idea the extend of #KeralaFloods still it’s not a #NationalCalamity! My #Keralites we have to deal with this on our own! Jai Hind!”

Moments later, Bollywood actor John Abraham said that he was extremely disturbed by what was happening in Kerala, where heavy rains have led to flooding of several districts.

Pookutty’s desperate call for help appeared to strike a chord with the Bollywood actors as many of them took to Instagram to urge their fans to donate generously towards Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. They included Shahid Kapoor, his wife Mira Rajput, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor and Mouni Roy.

Mira Rajput is currently pregnant with her second child. Her call for help for Kerala’s flood victims came on the day the Indian Navy rescue team successfully evacuated a pregnant woman, whose water broke soon after being rescued. The dramatic video was posted by the Indian Navy on Friday.

Moments later, the Indian Navy tweeted the photos of the woman and her new-born child stating that both of them were safe.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that over 164 people lost their lives, Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the state today to conduct an aerial survey. This is the first time he will travel to Kerala even though the nature’s fury struck the state on 8 August.
