Mira Rajput has message for men accused of sexual harassment, ‘don’t drink, stay at home at night’

Shahid Kapoor’s wife and Bollywood’s newest Mom, Mira Rajput, is known for expressing her candid views on contentious topics. Soon after getting married to Shahid Kapoor, she had courted a huge controversy by saying that she did not want her children to be raised by nannies since they were not puppies.

Her comments had upset many feminists, who viewed her opinion as an attack to working women. It had taken Shahid to intervene and pacify the situation.

More recently, Mira, who recently became mother of her second child, Zain Kapoor, had taken a strong stand in favour of Tanushree Dutta after the Chocolate actor accused Nana Patekar and Vivek Agnihotri of sexual harassment. Tanushree had also slammed actors such as Shahid Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth for continuing to work with men, who had sexually harassed her.

Unaffected by her criticism for her husband, Mira wrote a profound message stating that she was with Tanushree and believed her. Days after Tanushree raised the issue of sexual harassment in Bollywood, it opened the floodgate as India’s own MeToo movement gained considerable momentum. Since then, many prominent Bollywood names including Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor, filmmaker Vikas Bahl and singers Kailash Kher and Abhijeet Bhattacharya have been named for sexually assaulting women in the past.

Reacting to the ongoing campaign, Mira took a dig at the accused men blaming them for their public shaming. Taking a cue from how women victims of rapes are often blamed for their choice of dress and behaviour, Mira decided to turn the heat on men with a sarcastic message. The message shared by her read, “If men are concerned about being falsely accused of sexual assault maybe they should stay home and not put themselves in dangerous situations where they could be vulnerable.

“These things wouldn’t happen if they didn’t drink, go out to bars, or walk alone at night where women might mistakenly think they’re predators. They might also want to dress more conservatively so that they don’t appear threatening to women.”

Her post ended with a headline, “He asked for it.”
