More shocking details have emerged a day after Delhi’s designer Mala Lakhani was brutally murdered by her tailor Rahul Anwar with his two other associates at her house in posh Vasant Kunj Enclave. Lakhani was cremated on Friday evening.
Lakhani was murdered on Wednesday night by 24-year-old Rahul and his two relatives, 24-year-old Rahmat and 25-year-old Wasim. Rahul had been working with Lakhani for over three years. He and his relatives had also murdered Lakhani’s domestic help, one Bahadur Singh, a person with Nepali origin, when he tried to save her.
Now, Lakhani’s sister Aarti Sharma has made even more shocking revelations stating that Rahul had previously gone to jail after being arrested on molestation charges. She told news agency PTI that she had spoken to her sister at around 8.15 pm on Wednesday night. When she called her again, they continued to speak until 9.50 pm, when Lakhani requested to end the conversation saying that she will call back after watching the Bigg Boss show. The reality show, broadcast on Colors, ends at 10 pm every night.
“But she never called back,” Aarti said adding that it was Meenu, as Lakhani was known in her family, who helped get Rahul out of jail when he was arrested for molestation.
In 2017, Rahul was arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl in Rangpuri Pahari area. “She would always say that Anwar is like my ‘bachcha’,” Aarti was quoted as saying.
53-year-old Lakhani was murdered at her residence in Delhi’s posh Vasant Kunj neighbourhood on Wednesday night. Delhi Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary had told reporters that, on the night of the murder, the tailor had arrived at her house on the pretext of showing a newly stitched dress.
Chaudhary said that the motive behind the crime was robbery. He had said, “They themselves walked to the police station and confessed to their crime. The incident took place between 10pm-12am.”
The three men had bought a knife around ten days ago. Police have also recovered a Hyundai car.
