Madhuri Dixit was called an ‘opportunist’ in June this year by her fans when she met BJP President Amit Shah as part of the latter Sampark for Samarthan campaign. Shah, a hugely divisive figure in the Indian politics, meeting a popular Bollywood queen had not go down well with the latter’s fans. The popular actor had faced nasty trolling as soon her her photos and videos with Shah were shared on social media.
Few months later, it has emerged that there was a genuine political purpose behind that meeting. A report by news agency PTI has claimed that Dixit was likely to be fielded as a BJP candidate in the next year’s Lok Sabha elections. The report added that the popular Bollywood actress may be fielded from Pune constituency in Maharashtra in 2019 general elections.
Quoting a senior BJP functionary, the report said that Dikshit’s name had been shortlisted for the Pune Lok Sabha seat. “The party is seriously considering giving candidature to Madhuri Dixit in the 2019 general elections. We think the Pune Lok Sabha constituency will be better for her,” the unnamed BJP leader was quoted as saying.
A lot of Bollywood fans have been angry with Madhuri for her refusal to take a stand on several burning social issues recently including the gang-rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua. If the report by news agency PTI holds true, this will explain why Dixit has refused to comment on issues that may have caused embarrassment to the BJP
The 51-year-old actor has featured in many Bollywood films, including Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Dil To Pagal Hai, Saajan and Devdas.
