Madhu Kishwar’s ‘free sex’ tweet for Rahul Gandhi evokes angry reactions

Madhu Kishwar, a known supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has courted controversy again for making seemingly outrageous comments against Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Reacting to Gandhi’s announcement that his party will ensure Minimum Income Guarantee for every poor person if voted to power, Kishwar tweeted, “Wait till Rahul Gandhi also promises free sex for every adult male for a certain number of days every year!”

Kishwar’s tweet was in response to Gandhi’s tweet, posted on 28 January. The tweet by Congress President had read, “We cannot build a new India while millions of our brothers & sisters suffer the scourge of poverty. If voted to power in 2019, the Congress is committed to a Minimum Income Guarantee for every poor person, to help eradicate poverty & hunger. This is our vision & our promise.”

No sooner did she post her tweet on ‘free sex,’ social media users including journalists reacted angrily for her post. Journalist Rahul Dev wrote, “I can’t believe you have written it. Stumped. Sad.”

User Joy Das sarcastically wrote, “Someone tell her that Sex is actually free . Unless one is a Sanghi, in which case he has to pay or use force.” User Zainab Sikandar tweeted, “Madhu Kishwar is Payal Rohatgi’s senior version. They throw around words like “sex” for some RTs and eyeballs with perverts flooding their timelines with sexual innuendos. Can you imagine they do this to themselves.”

User Priyashmita Guha wrote, “Guys, without making a hullabaloo can you go to my tweet on Madhu Kishwar and report all the sex tweets against my mom and myself? Just report. Don’t give them any oxygen.”

Kishwar has often faced ridicule and criticism for peddling fake news and making seemingly outrageous comments targeting critics of Modi and his Hindutva ideology. Last year, she had come under condemnation from the Haryana Police and the Jammu and Kashmir Police for posting fake news. In May last year, she had also made lewd remarks on Gandhi and his party’s social media chief, Divya Spandana, also known as Ramya.

In 2016, Twitter had briefly suspended her account.
