Kerala floods: Watch Indian Navy rescue pregnant woman, gives birth to baby boy

The Indian Navy has been tirelessly working to rescue the floods victims in Kerala after the nature’s fury struck the state on 8 August leaving hundreds of thousands stranded.

On Friday, the Indian Navy posted a video of its rescue operation. In the video, a pregnant woman was being airlifted. Her water broke down soon after her rescue. The navy’s rescue team had first lowered a doctor from the helicopter to examine her condition before successfully airlifting her from the roof where she was stuck due to the raging floods.

While posting the video, the Indian Navy’s Twitter handle wrote, “A pregnant lady with water bag leaking has been airlifted and evacuated to Sanjivani. Doctor was lowered to assess the lady. Operation successful #OpMadad #KeralaFloodRelief #KeralaFloods2018.”

She later was taken to a local hospital, Sanjivani multi-speciality hospital in Alappuzha district, where she delivered a baby boy. The official Twitter handle of the Indian Navy posted the photos of the woman and the baby with a caption, “The young lady and her new born son both are doing fine. God Bless them.”

Kerala is in the midst of its worst floods for over 100 years. Several Bollywood artists on Friday took to Instagram to make a desperate appeal to donate for Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. They included Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Mouni Roy and Shahid’s wife Mira Rajput.

This was after the Oscar-winning sound recordist, Resul Pookutty, expressed his disgust over the lack of coverage in the national media on the state’s worst ever natural disaster,
