Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has hit out at filmmaker Karan Johar and veteran actress Shabana Azmi for their silence on the ongoing MeToo campaign in India. She particularly singled out Shabana for not sharing her own MeToo story.

She told India Today, “But my point is, where is Shabana Azmi ji? Why isn’t she sharing her MeToo experience? Where are these people?”

The Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi actor slammed Karan Johar for making girls look like Barbie dolls. Taking at a dig at Karan’s upcoming chat show Koffee With Karan, Kangana said, “I was seeing some promo that they have launched for this talk show. Again those same frivolous talks are going on. This one sleeping with this one, that one with that one. Making girls look like Barbie dolls, that is not done. And why men who change women like clothes being glorified? Has there been a woman who has been glorified like that.”

When asked if she would refuse to work with those individuals accused of sexual harassment, she said that she had filed her first FIR when she was 17. “People need to supported by the society. I don’t want to discourage the ones who are lone fighters like me….”

Her comments came hours after as many as 11 women filmmakers of Bollywood decided to not work with ‘proven offenders’ of sexual violence. They included Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao, Zoya Akhtar, Konkana Sen Sharma, Nandita Das, Gauri Shinde.

Kangana had sensationally alleged Vikas Bahl, who made Queen starring her, of inappropriately touching her during a trip to Goa. Kangana was later criticised for not speaking about her MeToo experience earlier.

The actor had said that she was “shamed” for not being cool enough by the director, who, Kangana says, was scared of her.

“But still every time we met, socially greeted and hugged each other, he’d bury his face in my neck, hold me really tight and breathe in the smell of my hair. It took me great amount of strength and effort to pull myself out of his embrace. He’d say ‘I love how you smell K’. I could tell something is wrong with him,” she added.
