In India, however, the platform became accessible within minutes of it going down. It was bought over by Facebook in 2012 for US$1 billion. The photo-sharing app has more than 1 billion active monthly users.
The Tuesday’s outage comes just days after the platform’s co-founders left the company in amid rumours that they clashed with Facebook, its owner, about how the company should be run.
While on desktop, the users are met with error message, mobile phone users have been unable to refresh their pages. The platform has become hugely popular among celebrities, who often use it to share photos of their key moments with their fans.
