A question on whether his upcoming film Gold was like Shah Rukh Khan’s Chak De! did not impress Akshay Kumar at all as the actor termed the question ‘frivolous.’
“For me, it is all about doing a good film.Chak De! India was a different story, Gold is different. It is frivolous to even think like that or competing with that film. Don’t compare it, it is all different,” PTI quoted the Khiladi actor as saying.
Akshay’s Gold revolves around the Indian hockey team’s quest for a Gold medal in the 1948 Olympics, while Chak De! released in 2007 was about the Indian women’s hockey team winning Gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. In Chak De! Shah Rukh Khan had played the role of a coach, who was determined to redeem himself after his patriotism came for scrutiny.
The film was a blockbuster and had earned Shah Rukh plenty of plaudits for his acting.
In Golld, Akshay is playing the role of a hockey coach Tapan Das. Akshay told PTI his director Reema Kagti had handled the subject of sports “very well.”
He said, “Reema is a tough master, she handled the sports thing very well. I salute her. It is commendable. It is a tough film to handle as you are taking the audience to the time period of 1936, then 1947 and 1948, she had to do so much homework. To make a film in that era is a very difficult job.”
Akshay had recently shared a promo of his film and it looked quite gripping.
Gold also has Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal and Vineet Kumar Singh in lead roles. The film is scheduled to hit theatres this independence day and will clash with John Abraham’s Satyamev Jayate.
Akshay had recently released the first song of the film on Instagram with a caption, ‘And here is #Gold’s first song and my personal favourite #NainoSeBaandhi out now!’
