‘Give me that land because I dance better, am younger and sexier than Hema Malini’

Controversy over Hema Malini being allotted 2000 sqm land by in Mumbai’s posh area for just Rs 70,000 by Maharashtra’s BJP government refuses to die down.

The debate has gained momentum particularly after Times Now dedicated an hour-long debate on this subject on Wednesday night.

There were panelists, who went jugular in their attack to ‘expose’ the BJP for doing ‘exactly the same what Congress had done to its own favourties.’

Some drew a parallel with the 2G scam fame A Raja of the DMK, while others invoked Robert Vadra to highlight the BJP’s ‘hypocrisy’ on rewarding favourites at the cost tax-payers’ money.

The show’s anchor, Arnab Goswami, himself appeared unusually belligerent against the leaders of the saffron party on the issue of gifting an expensive land estimated to be worth Rs 100 crore for just Rs 70,000 because of the Dream Girl’s association with the BJP.

For the political novice, she’s the BJP MP from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.

Goswami was at his best when he reminded the supporters of ‘Basanti’ that the land in question would have cost her more even in the year her famous film Sholay was released.

Sholay was released in 1975 while it’s the rate prevalent in 1976 which is being applied to determine the cost of the land ‘gifted’ to the actor.

Among those taking part in the debate was the Supreme Court lawyer Sanjay Hegde. He made several arguments against the decision to allotment of land, but it’s his this comment that has triggered an interesting conversation on social media.

He said, “Give me 2000 Sq mtrs, I will dance.”
