Bollywood singer and music composer Himesh Reshammiya has become a hero for giving West Bengal’s Ranu Mondal a break in his upcoming film after a video of the Bengali woman singing a popular track of Lata Mangeshkar at a railway station went viral. In the viral video, Mondal was seen giving a melodious rendition of Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai. No sooner did her video go viral, she was brought to a singing reality show, where singers such as Javed Ali, Reshammiya and Alka Yagnik were left mesmerised by her melodious voice.
It was at the reality show, where Reshammiya promised her a Bollywood break. Days later a video of Mondal singing along with Himesh Reshammiya in a posh studio surfaced.

But Ranu Mondal isn’t the only ordinary person, who’s been catapulted to instant stardom because of social media. From dancing uncle to Pakistan’s chai wallah, many others had their lives changed forever after their talent was spotted and shared on social media platforms.
Last year, a video of a man in his 40s broke the internet. In the viral video, the man was seen performing at a wedding function to a famous Govinda song Aap Ke Aa Jaane Se. Soon, the man, identified as Sanjeev Shrivastava, was all over TV receiving offers to endorse products and appear in music albums.
Chai Pee Lo Aunty
Sometime in 2018, a video of a woman sipping tea and offering the drink to others by saying ‘Hello fraands (friends), chai pee lo‘ went viral. The woman was identified as one Somvati. Her video caused a social media meme fest with many imitating her accent.

In September 2016, Arshad Khan had completed his morning namaaz and was rushing to his tea stall, where he worked as a chai wallah. Little did he know that a photographer’s arrival at his tea stall would change his life forever. Khan, one of 17 siblings, was clicked by a photographer, Jiah Ali, who posted his photo on social media with a caption, “Hot tea.” Rest, as they say, is history. Arshad Khan began to receive modelling contracts and acting assignments.
