Filmmaker Karan Johar on Wednesday announced that Dhadak starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar had crossed Rs 100 crore at the box office.
The film was already being billed as the most successful with newcomers as it crosses Rs 50 crore over the weekend. The success of this film has exceeded the box office performance of Student Of The Year starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra.
That film was also made under Dharma Productions of Karan Johar.
Karan wrote, “The heart beats worldwide! Worldwide gross Rs 100 crore.”
Earlier this week, trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted Dhadak’s performance, “#Dhadak has a HEALTHY Weekend 2… Witnesses ample growth on Sat and Sun… In fact, Sun was double of Fri… Speeding towards ₹ 70 cr mark… [Week 2] Fri 2.61 cr, Sat 4.02 cr, Sun 5.20 cr. Total: ₹ 63.39 cr. India biz.”
The news evoked mixed reactions from fans many of whom appeared critical of the film. One fan wrote, “Sairat crossed Rs 100 crore in Maharashtra alone, Dhadak which was its copy crosses Rs 100 cr in the world. Shows its class.” Another fan wrote, “World is getting dumber by day.”
Dhadak is a debut film for Janhvi, the elder daughter of Sridevi. The film had received unprecedented media attention following the death of the legendary actress in Dubai in February this year.
