Chitrangda Singh says she was asked to take off sari and shoot vulgar love-making scene, blames Nawazuddin Siddiqui for silence

Bollywood actor Chitrangda Singh has shared her own MeToo experience while also blaming actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui for looking the other way. Chitrangda said that she was asked to shoot a vulgar love-making scene but she was harassed, taunted and forced to quit Babumoshai Bandookbaaz after she expressed her reluctance to oblige the filmmaker’s request.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama website, Chitrangda recalled that she was declared ‘troublesome’ and ‘moody’ before she was asked to ‘pack bags.’ She was later replaced with Bidita Bag in the film.

Recalling the incident, Chitrangda told the website that she was asked to take off her sari, get on top of her hero and rub herself. She said, “I pleaded that this was not in my comfort zone. I said I was wearing only a petticoat underneath the saree. The director told me not to fuss and just do what was required. I was intimidated bullied and threatened into doing it. Some crew members were mortified. But, Nawaz just sat there waiting for the storm to blow over.”

She said that the episode left her in tears and she locked herself inside the vanity van. Chatirangda said that the film’s director Kushan Nandy later visited her in the van but not to asked about how she was, but to ask if she was doing the scene, as suggested by him.

“He didn’t ask me if I was okay. He just asked, ‘Are you doing the scene?’ I said no. He left. Nawaz could’ve taken a stand against my harassment. He didn’t. When empowered men in the film industry do not take a stand, the harassers feel encouraged,” he added.

This is the latest addition to the list MeToo stories that have gripped the Indian film industry. Chitrangda’s only qualms with Nawazuddin is that he could have stepped in using his clout as a successful male actor, but he did not. Nawazuddin has not commented on Chitrangda’s allegations yet.

Chitrangda will be seen in Bazaar, which also has Saif Ali Khan.
