Police in Chennai have arrested a techie, who lured women into sending him their nude photos on the pretext of securing them jobs in a 5-star hotel. Police arrested the accused, identified as Pradeep, on 22 August. Pradeep worked in an IT firm in Chennai.
Cops have recovered as many as 600 nude photos and videos from his mobile phone.
This was after a woman lodged a formal complaint against Pradeep. She told the cops Pradeep had approached her on the pretext of getting her employment with a five-star hotel. But he asked her to send her nude photos to him because the hotel wanted to know about her body structure in detail. Miyapur Circle Inspector S Venkatesh told ANI, “She believed him and sent the pictures after which the man stopped responding to her.”
According to a senior cop, Pradeep often worked on a night shift when he carried out his crime. “He claimed that since he used to feel lonely and get frustrated throughout the day with his wife working, he began collecting mobile phone numbers of women through a popular e-classified portal just for fun. But soon, it gave way to blackmailing,” a senior cop, probing the case, told TOI.
Police have booked Pradeep under various sections and sent him to judicial custody. Police have launched an investigation to find out how many more women were trapped by this techie.
As part of his modus operandi, Pradeep would contact his victims through video calls and ask them to undress. He would then record their photos and videos using special software.
The techie is believed to have told the police that he collected “photos and videos of 600 women from 16 states.’ “We are sending the seized gadgets to forensic labs for analysis. He has earned lakhs and we are planning to dig out everything once we get more time to question him,” assistant commissioner of police (Miyapur division) S Ravi Kumar was quoted as saying.
