At BJP event, Moushumi Chatterjee insults woman anchor for wearing jeans, faces social media roasting for hypocrisy

Bollywood actress Moushumi Chatterjee is facing social media roasting for publicly insulting a woman anchor at a BJP event for wearing jeans. The actress, who recently joined the BJP, slammed the woman anchor from the stage, calling her dress against the Indian values.

The video of Chatterjee insulting the woman anchor, who was almost in tears, has since gone viral. Chatterjee said, “You should come in an Indian attire whenever you are representing Indian in whichever form. We all wear modern dress. But you must understand where you are. You can’t go to temple wearing jeans. You can wear salwar qameez, ghagra choli or sari. That is easy to wear.”

Her unsolicited rant did not end here. She continued, “It’s incumbent upon us to represent our tradition and values. You are a child. I am much older to you. Please forgive me if you feel bad, but I, as a mother, had to say that ‘don’t do such thing in future beta.'”

Chatterjee’s rant is met with huge applause from the audience, who gathered in Surat for a party event. Although the woman anchor said she did not feel bad, she could be seen almost in tears as she struggled to speak, visibly shaken by her public shaming by Chaterjee.

Chatter soon began to face social media roasting for her hy;pocrisy with many digging out her own old photos, showing how the kind of dress she wore in films were not in sync with her so-called Indian tradition. Others posted photos of her daughters, highlighting her glaring hypovrisy.

Chatterjee had recently joined the BJP after having contested the Lok Sabha polls from Kolkata on a Congress ticket in 2004. The CPI-M’s Md Saleem had defeated her in the elections from Kolkata Nort-East seat. She had taken a break from active politics after her defeat in 2004 parliamentary elections.

The 70-year-old actress, who featured in severa; Hindi and Bengali films in the 60s and 70s, had recently appeared in Deepika Padukone-starrer Piku.
