Arnab Goswami launches tirade against Jaya Bachchan over parliament speech, tells Amitabh Bachchan’s wife to stop being ‘hyper-dramatic’

Republic TV founder Arnab Goswami on Monday night launched a tirade against actress-politician Jaya Bachchan after the latter made a passionate speech in the parliament over the rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad. Terming her speech ‘overdramatic’ and ‘hyperdramatic,’ Goswami said that the famous Bollywood actress, also the wife of Amitabh Bachchan, did not convince him.

Goswami began his show by making a reference to Jaya Bachchan’s speech in the Upper House of the parliament. He said, “Jaya Bachchan says castrate them, lynch them. Whatever she says, ‘lynch them’.”

Goswami, however, made it clear that Jaya Bachchan was only indulging in theatrics for public consumption and allegedly did not mean her words. He said, “The problem with politicians is that they will give emotional speeches. They will do nothing to follow up. Sorry, Jaya Bachchan, you don’t convince me. You are using the opportunity to make an emotional speech and you go back and do nothing tomorrow…Don’t be hyper-dramatic Jaya Bachchan ji. I don’t believe you because you are a member of the parliament. You are saying this because we embarrassed you on Friday.”

He concluded the debate by saying, “Jaya Bachchan you didn’t convince me because you were being overdramatic. Stop the drama and start the campaign tomorrow ‘Death for rapists.’ Then we will support you.”

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Jaya Bachchan had said, “I know it’s a little harsh. But, I think these people need to be shamed in front of the entire country. People who have not done their jobs properly. These kinds of people (the accused) should be brought out in public and lynched.” DMK MP P Wilson said the country should look at options like surgical or chemical castration for rape convicts.

A group of four people had raped a doctor on the outskirts of Hyderabad last week before burning her alive. The news sent shockwaves across India with many demanding strict punishments of the four culprits identified as Mohammed Pasha (truck driver) and his assistants Naveen, Kesavulu and Shiva.
