Aparna Sen rips into Arnab Goswami with epic tweet after Republic TV founder mocked for speaking to himself

Filmmaker Aparna Sen recently dominated news headlines after a video of Republic TV founder remotely gatecrashing her press conference went viral. Goswami earned public ridicule largely because he kept firing questions at Aparna Sen even though the celebrated actress-filmmaker could barely him.

Days later, Sen lashed out at Goswami for his perceived antics with an epic tweet. Sen wrote sarcastically, “Imaginary conversation with a journalist: Journo: Where were u when the jizia tax was imposed on Hindus? Me: But that was Aurangzeb’s time! Journo: Why were u silent then? Answer me! The nation wants to know!”

Sen’s tweet targeting Goswami went viral in no time with more than 11,000 users liking her social media post while another 2,300 of them retweeting. The filmmaker earned plaudits for demolishing Goswami’s whataboutery on the issue of lynchings of Muslims in the name Ram. Many also praised her for her creative way of using Goswami’s famous line The Nation Wants To Know in her tweet.

Arnab Goswami was seen incensed last week after 49 prominent Indian citizens including Sen, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and historian Ram Chandra Guha wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing their concerns over the alarming rise in lynchings of Muslims by Hindutva zealots, who forced their victims to chant Jai Shri Ram before killing them.

The topic gained momentum after a mob killed Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand with a video of the 24-year-old newly-married Muslim man being forced to chant Jai Shri Ram gone viral. On Friday, another video of a BJP minister in Jharkhand forcing a Muslim lawmaker Irfan Ansari to chant Jai Shri Ram had surfaced.

Goswami has always termed anyone criticising the BJP or PM Modi’s silence on such issues ‘pseudo liberals.’
