Actor Anushka Sharma dominated the news coverage up and down the country recently after her cricketer husband Virat Kohli posted a video of her scolding a man for allegedly throwing a piece of plastic on the road.
The video went viral even though there was no evidence to suggest that the man, identified as Arhhan Singh, had committed a crime deserving of such public shaming. Both Anushka and Virat faced incessant trolling prompting Singh and his mother Gittanjali Elizabeth to post two hard-hitting responses.
Elizabeth had written, “How dare you crush somebody’s image/and morale and reputation and expose him to public hate, a boy who is on the verge of starting his ventures, ..just to prove what good citizens you both are to increase your fan following? How dare you?? If you both really cared or bothered about cleanliness, then you would actively do something about all the garbage in your own lane.. You would make a noise and use your VOICE to urge the municipal authorities to take action atleast in the lane where you live, to start with, which you haven’t.
Posting videos of fake bravado just to fool your followers. If your intention was genuine then you would pull over and politely correct the person for littering IF THEY DID in a decent and real manner… and not by displaying such a rude and arrogant attitude, and then posting it for the world to see! You have caused a lot of grief with your post & this is morally and humanitarianly very wrong.”
Elizabeth had asked Anushka to ‘fear karma’ since the latter’s action had endangered the safety of her son. Few days on, the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actor is once again finding herself in a spot of bother on social media.
On Thursday, Anushka once again posted a video montage of her collection Nush with the caption, “Your shopping cart is about to get bigger than ever?? Create a wish list with all the #NUSH looks you love & shop ’em all at @myntra’s End of Reason Sale from 22nd to 25th June! #MyntraEORS | @nushbrand”
However, little did she realise that she will be met with nasty trolling because of her recent controversial action. Many users addressed her as a ‘garbage lady’ and asked her not to dump her garbage on Instagram. One user Tanvi Khemasara wrote, “Don’t throw garbage on insta. You garbage lady.” Another user, Salmanmyworld, wrote, “Anushka Sharma, was not right at all to post the video without blurring the face.” User Maverick wrote, “she is garbage that’s why she is throwing garbage oon Insta.”
Even amidst widespread criticism, Anushka and Virat had received plaudits from two senior ministers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet. Both Kiren Rijiju and Ravi Shankar Prasad had taken to Twitter to applaud her and Virat for scolding Singh for allegedly littering the road.
