Actor Anupam Kher has long been considered a staunch supporter of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On 6 May, the veteran actor took to Twitter to announce that he was in Chandigarh to campaign for his politician wife Kirron Kher, who’s seeking a re-election in this year’s Lok Sabha polls.

Anupam Kher wrote, “Ready to campaign for @KirronKherBJP for all the good work she has done in the last 5 years. A political leader who has committed herself to the welfare of the people of Chandigarh.” The actor ended his tweet, which had a photo of the couple together, with hashtags #PhirEkBaar #PeoplesPerson #Hardworking #Honest #Focused #Committed.

However, hours later, two of his scheduled election programmes had to be cancelled because there was no crowd. A report by Chandigarh-based newspaper, The Tribune, said that Kher’s first programme was scheduled to be held in a residential area of Sector 28-C at 4 pm. But this had to be cancelled because the BJP could not get crowd for the event.
His second event, scheduled for 5 pm in Sector 35-C too ended in embarrassment for the party as the actor drove through the market but did not stop his car to attend the event since there was no crowd. “Anupam rolled down a windowpane of his car only to see no crowd or tent there. He left and did not return,” reported The Tribune.
The actor is now facing social media trolling.
As all Kashmiri Pandits have returned to the Valley in the 5 years of Golden Rule of Modi, there is no one left in the country to listen to Anupam Kher! https://t.co/Gm9upuRbl7 via @thetribunechd

First #KanganaRanaut
Then @akshaykumar
Now @AnupamPKher
Slowly but surely people are seeing through the actions of these #FarziNationalists & how they are using nationalism to fool people and get votes for a party.
Well done Chandigarh !!!! https://t.co/jgd9WvDSVm— The DeshBhakt (@akashbanerjee) May 7, 2019
