Amitabh Bachchan’s comments on KBC imply Aishwarya Rai and Jaya Bachchan controlled power in his house

Sony TV’s quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati once again saw its host Amitabh Bachchan leaving his audience in splits with his tongue-in-cheek remarks aimed at wives and women of the house. Although he did not directly name his wife Jaya Bachchan or daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai, he told his contestant from Mumbai that wives were the real government in any household.

His contestant, an employee with the Steel Authority of India Limited in Jharkhand’s Bokaro, said that he was also an RTI activist and often sought replies from government agencies if he wasn’t satisfied with their services. This, he said, helped him correct the prevalent wrongs in the system.

It was in this context that Bachchan asked the contestant, “One personal question. Do you ever file an RTI request in your house, against your wife, when, let’s say, you have to complain about less salt in the food etc?”

“No sir, in our house, she is the government. She’s everything. The RTI Act doesn’t work here,” replied the contestant from Mumbai leaving Bachchan and the audience in splits. His wife, sitting in the audience, too was seen bursting into laughter.

Bachchan said, “I agree. No couple would ever say that the real government in their house is not the wife..Surely, you can’t do anything against them (wives). Am I telling the truth?”

Earlier this week, Bachchan it appeared had issued a hidden message for the womenfolk in his house when he said that only a woman could come up with a clever idea to outsmart a cruel man.

The Bollywood megastar has invited the winners of KBC Play-Along in the finale week of the series. The current season of the KBC will culminate with Sudha Murthy, the wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, occupying the hot seat on Friday.
