In the midst of recent tirade of attacks on Navjot Singh Sidhu followed by Kapil Sharma himself by BJP IT Cell trolls, the producers of The Kapil Sharma Show seemed to have scored big by inviting none other than BJP MP Manoj Tiwari.
This has clearly put paid to the efforts of BJP IT Cell trolls, who had launched a huge campaign demanding the boycott of The Kapil Sharma Show because of comments made by Sidhu after the Pulwama terror attack.
Understandably, the BJP IT cell has an axe to grind as Sidhu had quit the saffron party to join the Congress and is now a senior cabinet minister in the Punjab government. The BJP IT Cell had left no stone unturned in their concerted efforts to push the hate agenda on social media with #BoycottSidhu, #BoycottSonyTV and #BoycottKapilSharma trending on Twitter for several days in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack.
So much so, that several news outlets including ours had reported on the replacement of Sidhu with Archana Puran Singh on The Kapil Sharma. Interestingly, both Sidhu and Singh have always remained tight-lipped on the matter.
But, Tiwari, who’s also the president of the BJP’s Delhi unit and has been representing his party in the parliament since 2014, could not care less and appeared on the show. He was accompanied by several entertainment stars from around the country to promote the Celebrity Cricket League.
While on the show, Tiwari and Sidhu left everyone in splits with their amazing banter. Such was their camaraderie and mutual respect for each other that even the show’s host Kapil was forced to comment, “No one would have seen such love between BJP and the Congress.”
Keeping the BJP IT Cell’s hatred for Kapil aside, Tiwari told the popular comedian, “One thing I must tell you that it’s so good to see you back on air. People used to ask me ‘Kapilwa kahan hai (Where’s Kapil gone?).” Sidhu joined the conversation as he said in a bhojouri accent, “Even I would be asked the same question, I would say he’s on Twitter.”
Politics too became a topic of their discussion, leaving everyone on the show completely entertained. For example, at one point Tiwari said, “Sidhu paji will agree that time is tough for politics these days, but I’m still trying to enjoy because there’s no tax on your income up to Rs 5 lakh.” Tiwari’s jibe was aimed at the Congress as he sought to highlight his government’s recent announcement in the budget that anyone earning Rs 5 lakh a year will not have to pay tax on their income.
Known for his sharp wit, Sidhu replied, “But it took you five years to make income up to Rs 5 lakh free. Why?” But he said this all in good spirit because moments later he got up from his chair to hug Tiwari and said, “I don’t care if Modi sahab scolds you, but come and let me hug you.”
One wonders what the members of the BJP IT Cell will be thinking right now since their senior leader appears to have extended his approval to Sidhu’s presence on The Kapil Sharma Show.
It’s not clear whether the Saturday night’s show was recorded before the controversy over the Pulwama attack began. But, timing of its broadcast will certainly leave BJP trolls red-faced.
