Akshay Kumar announces about upcoming movie on his Birthday


Bollywood star Akshay Kumar turned 48 on Wednesday.

Marking this occasion, the actor announced his upcoming romantic thriller film, titled Rustom, which will release around ‘Independence Day’ weekend next year.


The film will be actor’s third collaboration with the director, producer and screenwriter Neeraj Pandey after Special 26 and Baby. But this movie hasn’t been directed by Pandey and will Tinu Suresh Desai as debut director.

Akshay Kumar tweeted, “Thrilled 2 announce Neeraj Pandey & I are collaborating 4 a romantic thriller #Rustom releasing on Aug 12, 2016! Hoping 2 be 3rd time lucky.”

In a statement, Akshay said, “Having worked with Neeraj on two fabulous projects, I am excited to start work on our new film. I’m happy that Zee Studios is putting its might behind this film along with KriArj Entertainment and Friday Filmworks. It gives me and the entire team confidence of this launched worldwide using the global might of Zee.”

Apart from the actor, the movie will also feature ‘young actresses’ whose names have not been revealed yet.

On the other hand, Pandey, who will pen the dialogues of the movie himself and co-write the screenplay with Vipul Rawal said, “When Tinu narrated Rustom to us, we immediately got hooked to the quality of the narrative and its potential and instantly decided that it was something that we would like to produce. We also really felt that given the nature of the story, Akshay would be the perfect fit and him agreeing to come on board will definitely give it the canvas it requires.”

Inspired by real life incidents, the project is co-produced by Zee Studios, KriArj Entertainment and Friday Filmworks.

The shooting of the movie will commence in Mid-December this year.
