Bollwyood actor Akshay Kumar has suddenly found himself in a considerable spot of bother after a special probe team of the Punjab Police summoned him in connection with sacrilege incidents that rocked the state in 2015.
A tweet posted by Punjab government from its official Twitter handle read, “The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the police firing incidents in the wake of the Bargari sacrilege case has summoned the Badal father-son duo and actor Akshay Kumar for questioning in connection with the investigation next week.”
Its subsequent tweet read, “While former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has been asked to appear before SIT on November 16, former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has been summoned on November 19 and Akshay Kumar has been asked to come on November 21, at the Circuit House in Amritsar.”
In October 2015, two people were killed in police firing in Behbal Kalan village in Moga district and scores of others were injured in violence across Punjab as protests erupted over the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib. An inquiry commission formed by the new Congress government led by Capt Amarinder Singh had found that sacrilege incidents were linked to the Akal Takht’s pardon to rapist Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a blasphemy case. A report by NDTV said that the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had played a crucial role securing rapist godman’s release. Prakash Singh Badal’s son, Sukhbir Badal, who was the home minister of Punjab then, too was aware of the police action at Kotkapura.
Akshay is accused of playing a key role in mediating between the Badals and Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Though Akshay has always denied ever meeting the rapist baba, his wife Twinkle Khanna had last year posted a photo of Gurmeet Ram Rahim informing that the self-proclaimed baba had moved into her neighbourhood. While a photo of Gurmeet, she had tweeted in January last year, “Members of the original Monosodium fanclub @anvivud @RajaSen @tanuj_garg – @shrishtiarya and I are blessed-HE has moved into our hood!”
