Bollywood actor, Ajay Devgn, on Wednesday justified Narendra Modi’s Lahore visit while hitting out at filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for his tweets targetting the prime minister for his unscheduled trip to Pakistan in December last year.
Ajay, who has been a known a pro-BJP face in Bollywood after he campaigned for the saffron party in Bihar elections, told NDTV, “He went to sort things. Didn’t happen. The scenario is different then and now.”
Modi had drawn widespread criticism by his detractors for his sudden stopover in Lahore to attend a birthday function in Pakistani prime minister, Nawaz Sharif’s family.
Though, his supporters both in politics and in media had termed his action as a masterstroke. A week after his Lahore visit, Pakistan-backed militants had attacked an Indian Air Force base in Pathankot killing several armed forces personnel. The siege had lasted for almost 80 hours causing huge embarrassment to the central government.
Slamming Anurag, the Shivaay actor said, “We should be responsible about what we were saying,” adding, “These are people who spoil things”.
“You can’t retaliate in such a way that you have no idea what you are saying, so be responsible enough on what you are saying and what you mean. When you make these statements it goes anti, so keep quiet and let it sort things,” he added.
Anurag on 16 October had taken to Twitter to express solidarity with filmmaker Karan Johar, whose film “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” facing ban by multiplex owners for casting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
Anurag had slammed Modi while asking him to apologise to nation for his Lahore trip.
Karan’s film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which releases this Friday, will compete with Ajay’s Shivaay for the box office collection.
