A day after Indian government’s flip-flop, which finally led to Modi government finally confirming the removal of actor Aamir Khan’s as Incredible India’s mascot, the PK actor on Thursday said he respected the decision.

In a statement issued to media, Aamir said it was an honour for him to be associated with the government’s flagship campaign to promote tourism in India. He, however. clarified that he had never charged any money for his services spanning over 10 years.

The BJP-led government’s decision was expected in light of Aamir’s criticism towards rising intolerance in India in the last 18 months.

But the government’s several U-turns throughout Wednesday left many baffled. This also gave credence to widespread perception that Modi government did not tolerate any criticism.

Critics may argue why the government had to discontinue with services of a an actor of Aamir’s stature particularly when it wasn’t costing the exchequer anything.

Aamir said that he will always be available to be associated with such initiatives meant for public interest in future if he’s approached by the government.

He siad, “It is the prerogative of the government to decide whether they need a brand ambassador for any campaign, and if so, who that ambassador should be. I respect the decision of the government to discontinue with my services. I am sure they will take all appropriate steps to do what is best for the country. Whether I am brand ambassador or not, India will remain Incredible, and that’s the way it should be.”

  1. This is absolutely ridiculous, I am appalled by this nonsense.
Next time such decisions should be put to vote.
And by the way its PK and not Piku.

  2. Hemant Birje or Gajendra Chauhan might replace him as India brand Amabassdor. Also please proof read article atleast for spelling. Humble request

  3. Just how low can journalism get in our great country!!! McCann Worldgroup handled Incredible India and their contract with our superb actor Aamir Khan expired and was not renewed because an equally superb actor Mr Bachhan has been roped in by McCann. How badly can you twist facts to present a distorted picture!! #Pressitudes

  4. Aamir was the best possible option with a global appeal. His mature, unassuming, calm & composed public personality best suited the purpose.
