Sanjay Dutt released from Pune Jail in 1993 blasts case

Actor Sanjay Dutt was released from Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail on Monday (25 February) in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

Soon after his release, Dutt told ANI, “There is no easy walk to freedom, my friends. Unke (fans) support ki wajah se mai yahan hoon.(I’m here today because of the support of my fans.)”

Rajkumar Hirani, who was at the Pune Airport, said, “Obviously, I’m happy that Sanjay is realsed.”

Dutt was convicted for his role in the 12 March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and after his arrest in 1996, had spent 18 months in jail before getting bail.

In 2013, he was sentenced to five years imprisonment and was transferred to the YCJ for serving the remaining prison term of 42 months.

Since the beginning of his his sentence in May 2013, the actor has reportedly been out of jail for 136 days. (28 days in October 2013, 90 days in December 13-January/February 14,  16 day in December 2014)
