The gunbattle took place as the cops were fired upon when they chased a wanted criminal – Akbar alias Danish who was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 – and his accomplice Asif. While his accomplice managed to flee, Danish was nabbed.

Forunately, the exchange of bullets took place at the busy Nehru Place at 2:30 a.m. before the metro operations begins and therefore, there were no commuters.

The police reportedly acted on a tip and laid a trap for the alleged criminal who along with his aide allegedly opened fire when they saw the policemen in bulletproof jackets. At least 13 rounds of bullets were fired.

Danish is wanted in many cases of robbery, theft, snatching and attempt to murder. He carries a reward of Rs 25,000 in connection with a shootout case at Pul Prahaladpur.
